ODYSSEY, the international network of French schools, joins forces with Creadev and raises €11 million to accelerate its international deployment.
Paris, February 28, 2019
The educational group ODYSSEY announces that Creadev has acquired a minority stake in its capital, with an initial financing of €11 million and the opening of two new schools in September 2019 (EFI Brussels and EFI Bucharest). CREADEV is the company of investment and entrepreneurial support of the Mulliez family.
ODYSSEY, a new French network, leader in international school education
The ODYSSEY educational group specializes in the creation and management of French schools abroad, combining academic excellence and pedagogical innovation, and welcoming students from kindergarten to high school.
Driven by the dynamism of international education, the development of the French-speaking world and the French government’s desire to double the number of pupils in French high schools abroad by 2030, ODYSSEY aims to create a school network of 10,000 pupils and 1,300 teachers and collaborators in around ten countries by 2025.
ODYSSEY is supported by a team of recognised founders in the school education sector and specialists in bilingual education and active pedagogies: Bernard Delesalle (Honorary President of the Federation of Secular Private Schools under association contract with the Government), Jonathan Derai and Younes Slaoui, two entrepreneurs in the sector. They are also supported in this ambitious project by Luc Chatel, former Minister of National Education in France, who has joined the ODYSSEY group’s management team as Vice-President.
ODYSSEY’s first location is the International French School of Casablanca, created in September 2017 with a local partner, the homologation of the school by French institutions illustrates the relevance of the chosen positioning (www.eficasablanca.org).
The next two ODYSSEY locations will be in Belgium and Romania with the opening of two schools in September 2019:

The International French School of Bucharest (EFI Bucharest): www.efibucarest.org
ODYSSEY, an international school network showcasing French educational know-how
Creadev’s investment in ODYSSEY is part of a long-term vision and provides ODYSSEY with the necessary resources to achieve its ambition: to be a worldwide leader actor and a major representative of the French educational know-how. Its schools stand out for their ability to combine French academic excellence, pedagogical innovation and the dynamism of international English-speaking schools.
This “best of the two worlds” alliance is carried out in each school of the ODYSSEY network by educational teams rigorously selected to implement an educational model combining:
A complete and state-approved French school curriculum leading students to the French baccalaureate diploma with an international option and then to the best universities of the world;
Multilingual teaching from kindergarten school onwards, with an emphasis on English and the language of the host country, delivered by qualified native-speaking teachers;
An international openness that promotes intercultural exchanges and understanding of the world;
A dynamic and positive pedagogy, and personalized support that makes the personal development and success of each student a priority;
An active pedagogy, based on cognitive sciences, that strengthens students’ confidence and facilitates the acquisition of 21st century skills: communication, cooperation, creativity, understanding of new technologies, etc.
The development, within the ODYSSEY network, of this academic offer in French education abroad will make it possible to attract students of all nationalities and prepare them under the best conditions for higher education in France and abroad.
Bernard Delesalle, Jonathan Derai and Younes Slaoui, co-founders of ODYSSEY, comment:
“This is a major milestone in the history of the ODYSSEY group. We are pleased to welcome as associates and partners Creadev and the Mulliez family, who have a long-term vision and are committed to the development of human capital, a fundamental challenge of the 21st century. Together, we have the necessary assets to create a global player of reference and excellence in international school education. »
Chantal Toulas, Executive Director of Creadev:
“The Odyssey project is fully in line with our investment policy, to support ambitious projects in the field of education, which is one of our strategic sectors. In the very promising market of K12 education, we share the founders’ desire to create a large-scale school group, better preparing children for the challenges of the 21st century, based on innovative pedagogy, stimulating their autonomy and adaptability, particularly multicultural.
Their extensive experience in the educational field convinced us to commit to a “greenfield” creative project. We will provide them with our international network and our ability to reinvest and accelerate over the very long term, to deploy and build a global leader in their sector. »
